This is a new and innovative family style program and is the only licensed maternity shelter in the state of New Mexico. This home provides a unique opportunity for pregnant and parenting teen mothers to learn parenting skills and life skills in addition to trauma informed treatment in order to move on into independence with their children. The mission of this program is to prevent the separation of mothers and babies during critical bonding periods and provide young mothers with the knowledge and skills to implement lasting change in their lives and break the cycle of abuse. All staff and clinicians who work in this unit receive Infant Mental health Training in order to best meet the unique needs of these young parents. This program serves teens and young adults between the ages of 12-21 with priority to youth involved with or “aged out” of the foster care system and/or Juvenile Probation services.
